This program meets at the Lodge at Grand Ravines North, overlooking the Grand River.

Katie and Luke from IYE will teach you how to identify seasonal edible & medicinal plants and mushrooms, what you can use them for, where to find them, and discuss ethical foraging practices. Katie will also share an introduction to the practice of “wild tending,” which acknowledges our human relationship to the natural world and is an approach to foraging that is founded on respect, appreciation, and reciprocity to the land, the people who have tended to it, the wildlife, and the amazing plants we meet on our walk.

Foraging & Wild Tending classes are guided by Katie Venechuk, IYE’s founder, Michigan Master Naturalist (MSU), and an experienced foraging instructor specializing in herbs, trees and plants, alongside her partner Luke Venechuk, a certified wild mushroom expert with the MDARD. Combining their knowledge and joy in the amazing world of wild, nutritious foods, Katie and Luke provide a high quality, balanced learning experience for all ages, sending you home with practical tips and confidence to explore the wonders of foraging on your own.
